Key features

What microcement does that tile cannot.

Six properties of the material that decide whether it is the right surface for your room — before anyone talks about colour.

Seamless by design

One continuous plane across floor, wall, and stair — no grout lines, no thresholds, no trims interrupting the room.

Slip-resistant options

The final sealer can be specified to a slip rating suited to bathrooms, wet rooms, pool surrounds, and terraces.

Non-porous and waterproof

Sealed microcement does not absorb moisture, so wet areas stay free of the mould and mildew that grout harbours.

Repairable in place

Damage is patched and re-sealed on the surface itself — no lifting tiles, no chasing a discontinued batch.

UV-stable outdoors

Exterior build-ups use a UV-stable sealer so terraces and courtyards hold their colour under Gulf sun.

Underfloor-heating ready

At two to three millimetres the surface conducts heat efficiently and moves with a correctly commissioned UFH slab.

Sectors we work in

Specified across commercial UAE interiors.

The same system, specified differently — traffic, hygiene, and slip requirements change the build-up, not the look.

01

Corporate offices

Quiet, hard-wearing floors and reception walls that photograph well and survive trolley traffic.

02

Hospitality

Hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues where the surface is part of the guest impression.

03

05

Healthcare

Hygienic, grout-free surfaces that wipe down cleanly for clinics and medical fit-outs.

06

Education

Durable floors for schools and universities that take heavy daily use without joint failure.

Process

How we install microcement.

A controlled, on-site sequence. Each stage is checked before the next begins.

  1. 01

    Substrate prep & priming

We grind, prime and level the substrate and fill cracks before any microcement goes down — a stable base is what keeps a seamless microcement floor from failing.

  2. 02

    Fibreglass mesh & base coat

The first microcement coat is trowelled over fibreglass mesh, locking the surface against micro-cracking under foot traffic.

  3. 03

    Build coats

Two build coats are trowelled tight to the mesh and cured overnight, bringing the microcement to a level, continuous thickness.

  4. 04

    Finish coat & colour

The final coat is pigmented to your chosen microcement colour and trowelled to the texture you signed off on the sample.

  5. 05

    Sand, seal & hand-over

We hand-sand to your sheen and seal in two coats of polyurethane — walkable at 24 hours, fully cured in 7 days.

Our guarantee

If it is not right, we come back.

A hand-applied finish is only as good as what happens when something goes wrong. Here is what we commit to in writing.

Flawless workmanship

If the finish falls short of the approved sample, we return and correct it. The applicator who laid it is the one who comes back.

Premium materials

We specify and stock the systems we apply, so a defect in the material is replaced and reapplied at our cost, not yours.

Why choose DecoPaint for microcement in the UAE?

Specialist decorative finishes planned around UAE properties — from the first site review to a sealed, handed-over surface.

  • Free site inspection
  • Waterproof wet-room systems
  • Applied over existing tiles
  • Indoor and outdoor build-ups

Microcement is a thin, trowel-applied mineral coating — roughly two to three millimetres — that bonds to an existing substrate and reads as one continuous surface. Because it adds almost no height, it can go straight over tiles, screed, concrete, or plasterboard without the demolition, dust, and skip hire a tile replacement demands. DecoPaint has been applying it across the UAE since 2010, on more than 500 completed projects.

The same material covers a wide brief. Microcement flooring for open-plan living, kitchens, and staircases. Microcement walls and feature surfaces where flat paint reads as thin. Waterproof microcement for bathrooms, wet rooms, and showers, where the absence of grout lines removes the part of the room that discolours first. And UV-stable outdoor build-ups for terraces, pool surrounds, and courtyards detailed for the Gulf climate.

Terminology varies by supplier and by country — micro cement, micro concrete, microtopping, microtopping flooring, micro topping, microcrete, and microcement finish all describe the same family of thin mineral layers. What actually changes between projects is the build-up: substrate preparation, primer, mesh reinforcement, the number of base and finish coats, and the sealer. DecoPaint specifies that build-up on site rather than quoting a single product for every room, because a busy villa kitchen floor and a guest bathroom wall are not the same job.

Work is carried out for homeowners, interior designers, contractors, and developers across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates. Every enquiry starts with a free site inspection: we check substrate condition, moisture, movement joints, and level changes, agree the colour and texture against physical samples, and issue a written, itemised quote within 24 hours.

From the work

What our clients say.

Three notes stay in view at once: the lead story, the neighbouring context, and the next surface waiting in the queue.

01

"We had three other contractors quote our penthouse refit. DecoPaint were the only ones who turned up with sample tiles before we'd even signed. The microcement bathrooms came out exactly as we'd hoped."

Mariam K.

Homeowner · Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Microcement · 110 m²

02

"Our restaurant interiors needed a concrete-texture finish that could handle daily kitchen heat and steam. Three years in, the walls look better than they did on day one. Quiet, professional crew."

Hisham R.

Restaurant owner · DIFC, Dubai

Concrete texture · 240 m²

03

"We brief contractors a lot in our practice. DecoPaint is one of the few we've kept on our preferred list. Tight communication, honest about timeline, and the marmorino finish on our last villa was textbook."

Priya S.

Senior interior designer · Studio in Al Wasl

Marmorino · 8 rooms

04

"Took the day off to be on site, didn't need to. They sent photos every morning, asked the right questions, finished early. The terrazzo lobby is genuinely the best surface in the building."

Omar A.

Building owner · Abu Dhabi

Terrazzo · 380 m²

05

"The pearl finish in our master suite is exactly what I'd been trying to describe to other contractors for two years. They got it the first time."

FAQ

Microcement UAE questions

Don't see your question? Email us — we read every one.

Completed microcement bathroom with a glass walk-in shower, linear drain and grout-free walls and floor
  • Microcement is priced per square metre, and the rate moves with substrate condition, total area, waterproofing requirements, edge and threshold details, and the finish selected. Small bathrooms cost more per square metre than large open floors because preparation and detailing dominate the labour. DecoPaint issues a written, itemised quote within 24 hours of the free site inspection.

  • In most projects, yes. Tiles are cleaned, keyed, and primed, grout lines are filled, and a reinforcing mesh is embedded before the microcement layers go on. This is the main reason clients choose it over re-tiling — no demolition, no skip, and only a few millimetres of added height. The site visit confirms that the tiles are sound, well bonded, and free of movement before we commit to it.

  • Yes, when it is specified as a full system. The substrate is tanked with a waterproof membrane first, the microcement layers are applied over it, and the surface is closed with a purpose-made sealer. The finished wet room has no grout lines, which removes the part of a tiled bathroom that stains and fails first. DecoPaint installs microcement bathrooms, wet rooms, and walk-in showers across the UAE.

  • A correctly specified system should not. Cracking traces back to the substrate rather than the finish — movement in the slab, an unrelieved structural joint, or moisture pushing up from below. That is what the site inspection is for: we check moisture, movement, and joint positions, add mesh reinforcement, and carry structural joints through the finish instead of covering them over.

  • A single bathroom or a compact room is usually three to five working days. A full villa floor or a commercial interior runs on a staged programme covering preparation, base coats, finish coats, sealing, and cure time. Sealed floors normally accept light foot traffic within 24 to 48 hours, with furniture and heavy use held back until the sealer has fully cured.

  • They overlap heavily and are often used interchangeably. All three describe thin, trowel-applied cement-based layers used to create seamless floors and walls. Microtopping generally refers to the thinnest variants, chosen for refurbishments where added floor height has to stay minimal. DecoPaint selects the build-up based on substrate, traffic, and the finish you want rather than on the label a supplier prints.

  • Epoxy and resin floors are plastic coatings; they cure to a uniform, often high-gloss film and are typically specified for garages, warehouses, and industrial areas. Microcement is a mineral finish with hand-trowelled tonal movement, so it suits residential and hospitality interiors where the surface is meant to read as a material rather than a coating. It also works on walls and vertical surfaces, which resin systems generally do not.

  • Microcement is pigmented, so the palette runs across warm oysters, greiges, sands, soft greys, and deeper charcoals, in matte, satin, or polished sheens with varying degrees of trowel texture. DecoPaint prepares physical samples in your own light before application, because microcement colour shifts noticeably between showroom lighting and the room it will live in.

  • Yes, with the correct specification. Outdoor terraces, courtyards, and pool surrounds use a UV-stable sealer and a slip-rated finish suited to UAE sun and surface temperatures. The build-up differs from an interior floor, so confirm the outdoor application during the site visit rather than assuming an interior spec will carry over.

  • A correctly installed and maintained microcement floor lasts comparably to a good tiled floor — well over a decade in a domestic setting. What ages is the sealer, not the microcement beneath it, and the sealer is refreshed rather than replaced. Commercial floors on heavy traffic are resealed more often.

  • Yes, and it suits it particularly well. At two to three millimetres the surface conducts heat efficiently and warms faster than thick tile or stone. The slab must be properly commissioned — heated and cycled before application — so the screed has finished its initial movement.

  • Stone arrives in slabs or tiles, so it always has joints, and it is heavy enough to need structural allowance. Microcement is continuous, adds a few millimetres and almost no load, and can be applied over what is already there. Stone offers natural veining; microcement offers uninterrupted surface and hand-trowelled tonal movement.

  • Yes. Once cured and sealed it is inert, and DecoPaint uses low-VOC systems. The surface is warm underfoot, has no joints for dirt to collect in, and can be specified with a slip-resistant finish in circulation areas.

  • Clear the room of furniture, and arrange access for the crew. Everything else is ours: we protect adjacent surfaces, check and repair the substrate, correct levels, tank wet areas, and prime before any microcement goes down. The site inspection tells you in advance which of these your room needs.

  • Day to day, a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft mop are enough — there is no grout to scrub. Avoid acidic or abrasive products, which attack the sealer rather than the microcement underneath. Depending on traffic, the sealer is usually refreshed every few years; DecoPaint supplies maintenance guidance and the matching products on handover.
