Approve a Marmorino feature wall against a physical reference, with the lighting and surrounding finishes identified. For a commercial interior, name the person authorised to accept the result and record which wall the approval covers. The fit-out team needs an instruction it can use when the designer, operator and applicator are reviewing the same surface.

DecoPaint's Marmorino finish is hand-trowelled, with appearance choices that include different levels of sheen. The purpose of a sample review is to agree the intended character and its acceptable variation before the full wall proceeds.

What the small sample can settle

Start with the colour family and the surface character. Compare the sample beside the actual joinery finish, stone or upholstery proposed for that part of the room. Keep the references together during the review so a later material substitution can be recognised as a change to the approved combination.

DecoPaint brings hand-finished A5 samples to project reviews. Use them to narrow the selection and discuss the finish with the applicator. A small board leaves questions about a broad reception wall or a surface wrapping around a corner. Note those questions and agree whether they need a larger trial.

The existing Marmorino specification guide covers the wider material decisions. This approval exercise gives those decisions a location, a reference and someone responsible for accepting them.

Brief the mock-up around the difficult part

For a prominent commercial wall, discuss a mock-up that includes the detail you are least certain about. That might be a return beside a doorway, the junction with a reception counter or an area lit closely along its surface. Agree the extent with the applicator and fit-out team; there is no single mock-up size that answers every wall condition.

Include the proposed preparation and finish system in the brief. Ask whether any protective treatment is part of the displayed result. Record the products used and have the applicator confirm when the trial is ready for assessment under the selected system's requirements.

Hand application introduces variation. San Marco's Marmorino Classico technical sheet describes how appearance depends on the decorator's application. That is a product-specific example, not a statement that DecoPaint uses this brand. Ask which system is proposed for your project and judge its trial accordingly.

Run the review as a working session

View the trial from the places people will actually occupy: the reception queue, the waiting seats or the approach from the entrance. Review it with the intended artificial lighting as well as daylight where relevant. If the final fittings are unavailable, record that limitation and agree what still needs checking once they are installed.

Have the operator attend where cleaning or frequent contact is a concern. Ask the applicator to explain the proposed care method and how a marked area would be assessed for repair. A sample approval should not be treated as proof of every performance requirement. Request the separate technical information required by the project specification.

If the group requests a change, write down what needs changing. “Less visible trowel movement beside the signage” gives the applicator a clearer instruction than “make it more subtle”. Revisit the revised trial before releasing the affected work.

Keep an approval record with the physical reference

Use a single record containing:

  • The wall elevation or room reference, including any returns covered by the decision.
  • The sample or mock-up identifier, finish system and colour reference.
  • The agreed sheen and description of the visible movement.
  • The lighting arrangement used for assessment and any remaining checks.
  • Dated photographs, the decision and the names of the authorised reviewers.
  • The location of the retained sample and who will protect it during construction.

Photographs help locate the reference; retain the physical sample for later comparison. If lighting, adjacent materials or the proposed finish system changes, ask the design team which parts of the approval need another review.

Send the wall elevation, nearby material references and the lighting proposal when booking a sample review with DecoPaint. Include who will approve the wall and which junction you want the trial to resolve, so the session can end with a usable decision.
